The Maier Centre for Autism Services will be located at 17451 - 103 Avenue on land generously donated by Klaus Maier. It will give children in Edmonton access to a dedicated facility and put them in touch with appropriate professionals, including speech-language pathologists, occupational therapists, psychologists, social workers and teachers.
This treatment will be available under one roof, providing children with specialized individual and group training.
The training will help with:
- communication and socialization skills
- the ability to adapt and use flexible thinking
- appropriate interaction with peers
- daily living skills
The treatment centre will be built to excellent safefy standards and will include:
- a parent lending library
- areas for educational events-training parents, staff and community members
- areas for meetings and parent support
- multipurpose gym area for active play, adapted sports and movement groups
- small rooms especially for one-on-one and small group therapy
- space for therapy and team meetings
- quiet areas for children and their families
