Active Discovery is a semi-structured play-based program aimed at providing children and youth diagnosed with autism with increased opportunity to participate in physical activity according to their abilities and preferences. The surrounding environment will be set up as to encourage children and youth to freely explore their surroundings, engage with different equipment, and discover physical activity that is meaningful and exciting to them while simultaneously working on their fundamental movement skill development. Learning Services – Supporting Sensory Regulation and Active Engagement

Children’s Autism Services of Edmonton have partnered with the Mayfield Figure Skating Club to provide adapted skating lessons for children with autism spectrum disorder. These lessons will be delivered by trained skating coaches, and supported by Children’s Autism Services of Edmonton staff. These lessons provide a fantastic opportunity for kids to learn the fundamentals of skating, and can help improve or maintain a child's strength, balance, coordination and self-esteem, which in turn may positively impact function, participation and quality of life.
